‘Is It Just Me?’ is a song by Sasha Sloan, which addresses some opinions of hers which, in today’s society, would largely be frowned upon. The more I listen to the song, the more I understand some of them, so I thought for this week I’d address each unpopular opinion for some fun!
“I hate holding babies”
Babies are cute, don’t get me wrong, and if they’re well behaved and take a liking to you, they are quite soothing to hold. However, the pressure of holding another human in your arms can be a bit overwhelming if you overthink it and sometimes the baby itself can seem heavy after a while…
“[I hate] people tryna save me”
This is a tricky one. It is amazing to have supportive people around you, who are willing to sacrifice their own time and energy to help you when you are low. Sometimes, however, I feel guilty about people looking out or after me, as I shouldn’t be anyone else’s responsibility. Sometimes you simply just don’t want help so, in that sense I agree with Sasha. Ultimately, the ultimate saviour is someone who simply shows you they are there, so really I am grateful to anyone who would be willing to ‘save’ me.
“Religion is a business where you pay for God’s forgiveness”
Religion itself is a good concept and for centuries has provided good morals and routines for many lives. Nowadays, religion seems to be frequently twisted for people’s personal gains, business and unfortunately appears to be the source of many conflicts.
“Modern art is borin’”
I’m not a huge expert on artwork, so maybe I am simply under appreciating modern artwork, but I definitely am more impressed by older works.
“Politicians are annoyin’”
I think almost everyone would agree with Sasha on this one…
“I don’t think love lasts forever”
I believe if you love someone it is forever. That being said, I don’t believe you are in love with someone forever. Some of you may believe loving someone and being in love are the same thing, but to me they are definitely different.
“Old music was better”
My favourite era of music was definitely the noughties and even early 10s… Whether you class that as old is up to you!
“Weddings are outdated”
I don’t believe weddings are outdated- they are such a huge tradition that they are still embedded in our society. Plus, who wouldn’t want an excuse to gather everyone you know together in one room? In terms of marriage, I see that as much more outdated. It simply isn’t necessary to the same extent in today’s society. There are so many different ways to express love that it really doesn’t matter whether you feel you need a wedding to consolidate your love or couldn’t think of anything more horrifying!
“The show ‘FRIENDS’ was overrated”
Nope. Nope. Nope. Happy, sad, angry, tired, excited; it fits every mood! I will forever be a FRIENDS fan.
“Rich kids have it easy”
Definitely easier, but perhaps it’s hyperbolic to say easy. Although I know more money would make me a whole lot happier, I know many still struggle despite their financial advantage.
“PDA is creepy”
Depends on the extent to be honest…
“The Internet’s obnoxious”
To me, the internet is half and half. 50% is incredibly useful and has enables so many advances in our lives. The other 50% is not so great. It is detrimental to people’s self-esteem, productivity and even safety, especially amongst my age group and younger. If I had to make a choice, I would still choose to have the Internet in my life, simply because of the everyday help and efficiency it provides. I just wish we could have prevented the collateral damage that came with it.
“People my age make me nauseous”
Obviously there are certain individuals who I’m not so keen on, and sometimes even my generation as a whole can disappoint me. However, I choose to surround myself with amazing people and will be forever grateful I have such wonderful peers.
I shall leave the last two opinions out for the sake of PG content…
